Detroit

Troy + Lauren

I absolutely loved the chance to have Lauren and Troy in front of my camera.  Ted and I met these two last year at church, and they have become quick friends.  They are other-centered and caring, and are always making their friends a priority.  I have been so thankful to get to know them better and to get to do life together.  So getting to celebrate their anniversary with them was an added bonus!

We planned a downtown engagement session to commemorate their first year of marriage and move to Michigan from out of state. We ended up with a grey, windy day which made for such a romantic backdrop, and the perfect excuse to cuddle up close!  Our session started at the Z Parking Lot and we finished in Campus Martius.  These two were so comfortable in front of the camera, and made my job so much fun.  I love that years from now, wherever life might take them, they will always have these photographs from Detroit together to remember the excitement and changes that accompanied their first year of marriage.  Happy (belated) anniversary, Lauren and Troy!

Steve + Caiti's Glamorous Gem Theater Wedding

We had been looking forward to Caiti and Steve's downtown Detroit wedding for months, and for so many reasons. First, Ted and I couldn't wait to join with Caiti and Steve's family and friends and celebrate this couple. Caiti and Steve are pure gold.  We share mutual friends, so we have spent time with the couple in the past and they always make everyone around them feel welcomed and loved. Caiti and Steve can come into a new group of people and seem like they have known everyone since childhood, even if it is their first time meeting everyone in the room.  Little did we know that their family and friends would treat Ted and me the same way.  Making us feel like a part of the party the entire day!

Secondly, we are suckers for downtown Detroit weddings.  The city is thriving and it is so fun use the Motor City as a wedding day backdrop. We shot at a few of my favorite downtown locations throughout the day and I felt like the city was just showing off. Exploring all of my favorite spots with this gorgeous bridal party made it all the more special!  Caiti and Steve's ceremony and reception were held at the Gem Theater.  The Gem is an iconic location in the city, and made for such a unique venue for their wedding day.

Lastly, we couldn't wait for Caiti and Steve's wedding day because we knew it would be filled with so much laughter. And we were so right about this one!  Caiti and Steve have a relationship where they constantly keep each other laughing. We started noticing this when we spent time with Caiti and Steve as friends, and then at their engagement session.  During their engagement shoot Steve kept Caiti laughing the entire time. Even when I would encourage a soft, quiet moment these two would burst into laughter together. It was the best.  Because that is exactly who they are as a couple.

Laughter is such an incredible trait to share as you embark into married life.  Some of our favorite moments are the ones where Ted and I just laugh together.  Because married life can get messy, and life gets busy, and sometimes the best source of comfort at the end of a long day is just laughing together. Laughing about the small things and sometimes laughing about the big things that you can't change.  Knowing how to make your spouse laugh is such a gift, and Caiti and Steve certainly have that gift!  Not to mention that they have a pretty wonderful support system that keeps life lighthearted and hilarious right along with them.

Caiti and Steve's wedding lived up to all of our expectations. We explored our favorite city, laughed along with Caiti, Steve and their bridal party, and watched two of the kindest people vow to love each other unconditionally and through whatever life may bring them.  Thank you for letting us capture there memories with you, Caiti and Steve! Cheers to a lifetime of laughter together!

Riley- Class of 2018

If we haven't had a shoot together, let me explain to you how each session starts.  We meet one another, typically for the first time actually meeting in person, and then we spend a few minutes getting to know each other.  From there I let clients know what they can expect from the session.  I let them know that it may take a few minutes for them to get comfortable in front of the camera, but that is okay, it happens to everyone.  From there we start shooting and within 10-15 minutes clients have loosened up and are ready to take the photos they will really love.  The ones that are comfortable and natural.

Well, that is not how it went with Riley!  I let her know that it was okay to feel a little unsure at first, but that feeling would go away.  And right there, first shot, I was like dang girl, we don't have to worry about those 10-15 minutes we usually take to get comfortable!  She was instantly comfortable in front of the camera and naturally posed, smiled and giggled her way right through her session.  I later learned that she is on the cheer team and does theater at her high school, so that might explain how comfortable she was!

We spent our evening together in Detroit, doing parts of her session at both Belle Isle and the Z Parking Garage.  Both are such incredible locations and I loved all of the unique spots we were able to find to help showcase Riley's personality.  Can we talk about those skyline views at sunset with her sassy attitude- absolutely my favorite photographs from her session! Thanks so much for letting me be a part of celebrating your senior year, Riley!

Weekend Edition

So remember when I said there would be lots of changes around the blog?! Well here is another one! In addition to sharing posts about my business and tips for preparing your family for your shoot I also wanted to share with you some little insights into my life.  You all welcome me into your family so openly.  You let me tag along on your wedding day, invite me to hold your babe just a few days after they join your family, and sing along to your little ones' favorite songs as we explore the park together.  So now I would love to welcome you into my family and my life a little bit more!

This past weekend we unexpectedly had to cancel vacation plans, which meant we had an entire weekend at home with absolutely no commitments! That is rare, and I was excited to see how we would spend our weekend around home.  Our friends, Nick and Kaitlin, asked if we wanted to join for a bike ride in Detroit on Saturday morning.  I was pretty excited we were able to say yes! Not only do I think Nick and Kaitlin are ridiculously great friends and I always look forward to spending time together, but I also love exploring new parts of Detroit.  So basically it was a Saturday filled with two of my favorite things!

We started the morning at Eastern Market, made our way through the Dequindre Cut, and onto the Riverwalk.  Our final destination was Batch Brewing Company for lunch and brews- which I highly recommend!  I am already looking forward to more summer Saturdays like this one . . .

Baligian Family

I always have such a nice time when I get to photograph the Baligian family.  They seriously make having 5 kids look so simple (and growing up in a family of 7, I know the chaos first hand!) The siblings are so sweet to each other and I can't get over how their oldest daughter just loves on her little siblings.  She is a little momma in the making!

I joined the Baligians at their home for photographs to welcome the newest addition to their family, Ezra.  He was a little cutie and didn't make a peep the entire time- even when his toddler sister wanted to be all close and personal while he was trying to fall asleep. Thank you so much for letting me spend the morning with your family, Baligians!

Raymond Family

I  met the Raymond family at Booth Park in Birmingham on one of those rare April days when the sun peaks out and you can feel summer right around the corner.  Their little lady was just about to turn one so we snapped a few extra pictures of her to celebrate.  Because, let's be honest, when you are rocking a tutu you should take as many sweet photographs as possible! Thank you for letting me capture some memories with you, Raymond family!

Zion turns 3

As you can see Zion totally rocked his photo shoot! He took about 5 minutes to warm up and then he was all smiles.  All I had to do was wiggle my fingers and just mention that I might think about tickling him and he was laughing out of control.  It was fantastic! We snapped these photographs on a chilly April morning, but Zion toughed out the temperatures.  I just love all of the sweet expressions that we were able to capture here.  Thanks for thinking that I am (just a little bit) funny, Zion!

Baby Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald stopped by the studio a few weeks after he was born for his newborn pictures.  While we thought he might just decide to take a little nap, this guy powered through it and stayed awake for his whole shoot.  Even though he was awake, Fitz didn't make a peep until the very last setup where he let us know that he was certainly done with his shoot!  Ted and I attended college with both of his parents and it was too sweet to see them growing and thriving in their new roles as mom and dad.  Congratulations,  to your growing family!

Beachwalk Creative Design Company

Shelley stopped by a few weeks back so I could snap images for her new website.  She is the creative genius that helped bring my new brand and website design to life, and she is ridiculously talented.  If you want to check out some of her work you can find it here. Shelley had some awesome ideas and it was so fun to play around and capture pictures that really show her personality.  I hope the images help her clients get to know her better and bring her brand to life.  Thanks for everything Shelley, you're a rockstar!
