Baby Bump

Jessica + Anthony

I have known these two for a very long time, and now they are expecting their first little one!  l met Jessica and Anthony during our years at Farmington High School.  These two have been dating ever since and it has been fun to run into them in the years since graduating and hear their story.  They actually sit near my parents at church every Sunday, so my mom is regularly filling me in on what is going on their lives if I go awhile without seeing them!

Soon after we told my parents we were expecting my mom said that Jessica was due just a week or so after me!  It was so fun to capture these memories with her as we both grow our baby bumps.  It is always funny to me to look back at where I have been in different stages of my life and think, did I ever imagine I would end up in this exact moment? Like when we were 16 at Farmington High did I ever think I would have these two in front of my camera, celebrating their first little one while I am doing the same behind the camera? I didn't expect it, but I am beyond thankful for these moments!

Jessica and Anthony are going to be the best parents.  They are so joyful as they await their little one's arrival, and I know they are surrounded by family and friends who are equally as excited for their addition! I cannot wait to hear if that little bump is a boy or a girl, and to see your little one grow up!  Congratulations, Anthony and Jessica!

Putman Maternity

Another sunflower session! Sunflower sessions are totally becoming an annual tradition! Maybe mini sessions next year?! Anyways, I am getting ahead of myself there. Let's chat about this cute couple below.

That lady is Ted's sister, Eve, and that baby bump is our next niece or nephew.  The weekend of this shoot was all about celebrating that little babe, with Eve's shower on Saturday and their maternity session on Sunday.  We had so much fun getting together with all of the most important ladies in Eve's life and celebrating that little babe.  Eve and I went to college together, joined the same sorority and are only one year apart in age, so all different aspects of our lives are intertwined.  It was so fun to be at her shower and get to spend time with aunts, cousins, college friends, my family, family friends, etc. Can we please have more excuses to get so many of my favorite women in one spot?!

Ted and I cannot wait to welcome this babe in our family.  We take our job as aunt and uncle very seriously.  We are all about vacations together, sleepovers, Saturday soccer games, and teaching our nieces and nephews the most important things in life- like how to make the perfect s'more or how to play euchre.  My family is overflowing with kids, but this is the first baby on Ted's side of the family so we are looking forward to transferring our favorite aunt and uncle activities to their side of the family, too. We cannot wait to meet you, baby Putman!

Kelly + Loren Maternity

This session was such a dream.  I took a chance on a new location (Maybury Park) and asked Kelly and Loren to come as early as they could so we could catch the morning light.  The sun was just perfect, there was no one else at the park, and when Kelly got out of the car wearing that dress I knew we were in for an incredible shoot.  These two are expecting twins, a little boy and a little girl due this fall!  I know right, you would never know by how glamorous Kelly makes pregnancy look.

We spent our hour together wondering through the park and catching up on life and what soon to be parenthood looks like for these two.  Kelly and Loren are so incredibly comfortable around each other, and that made my job so fun.  They laughed with each other, talked about how excited they were for their growing family, and luckily Loren was able to watch out for the poison ivy that I continued to put us next to.  I will need to learn what the looks like for my next shoot!

I am already looking forward to meeting these two babes when they arrive this fall.  But for now, enjoy this exciting season of life, Kelly and Loren!

Miller Maternity

Well I figured I better go ahead and get these photographs blogged since today I shot the newborn pictures for the babe inside that beautiful belly!  (Side note: Hello time, if you could  just slow down a little bit that would be wonderful!)  These two little dudes couldn't wait to meet their little sibling when I saw them at their momma's maternity shoot.  They anxiously loved on their momma's belly and made guesses if they would be welcoming a baby brother or a baby sister into their home.  And can we just take a moment to talk about how gorgeous Colleen looks when she is pregnant.  And not only is she rocking her bump, but she did it in heals while also corralling two little boys.  Let me tell you, she is a total rockstar.

We shot these photographs at a really small local park in Birmingham called Barnum Park.  We originally picked the park because it had beautiful tulips.  Unfortunately, because of rain we had to reschedule the shoot and we just caught the tail end of the blooms.  But what I realized is this is a really, really great place for photo shoots.  And you know what else I realized, that sometimes we just totally overanalyze where we do our family shoots!  I never would have thought to use this park for a session, but I totally loved it!  It had a nice pathway, clumps of trees, high grass, and that really cool old, brick front to a school building.  Realizing how much I enjoyed shooting at this park made me want to drive around and reconsider more small parks.  Sometimes less is more, right?! How many other cool locations am I missing out on because the park just seems too small?  Do you have any must consider locations?  I would love to add some more locations to my list of favorite spots.

You won't have to wait long to find out if the Miller family added a boy or a girl to their home!  Their newborn pictures are being uploaded as I write this post.  I can't wait to be a part of your family as we watch you grow, baby Miller!

Nate + Hannah Maternity

You know what they say about finding your tribe and loving them well?  I am so glad these people joined our tribe!  Ted and I have a lot of friends from college, where we met.  Albion is a small school and we ended up moving back to metro Detroit along with most of our closest group of friends.  So we have been lucky enough to do life with a lot of the same people since we were 19 years old.  Nate and Ted actually met in P.A. school.  There was something like 5 guys in their class of 80, so they hung together a lot and studied together pretty much every weekend.  During that time Ted and I got married and moved 5 minutes away from Nate and his wife Hannah and we all just hit it off.  They ended up spending time with our group of college friends and immediately became part of the tribe. I couldn't imagine life without friends like them!

We snapped these photographs of Nate and Hannah in their backyard.  I was extremely disappointed when they decided to move away from us, but I guess I can totally understand it for a lot like this!  We planned their shoot perfectly with a snowfall that was just a few days old.  It was actually unbearably cold, but they did great and I love how these pictures turned out!  Snowy shoots are quickly becoming some of my very favorite.

It is so fun to watch Nate and Hannah experience this stage of life, and secretly I am taking notes because Hannah makes carrying that baby look goooood! They are going to be the best parents and I cannot wait to see them grow into that role together. I am counting down the days until we get to meet their little lady and welcome her into the tribe! Congrats, you two wonderful people!

2016 Highlights: Part 1

Wow- what a year!  2016 has topped them all, and as we close out the year I am welcoming 2017 with a grateful heart and big goals.  But before we get ahead of ourselves, let's take a little walk down memory lane together, shall we?

The year started with the new Caryn Ashley Photography brand.  It was a dream come true to see this brand come to life.  One of my closest girlfriends helped me dream and plan for what this new sight and brand would do for my business and I wouldn't have wanted to share that experience with anyone else.  Once the new brand launched it really felt like I could jump into the year ready to better serve my clients with an elevated experience.

And from there I spent every possible moment documenting life with all of you.  I met so many new couples and families in 2016.  Together we explored new parks, you opened up your homes to me during lifestyle sessions, and even shot through rain and snowstorms.  During these shoots it not only felt like the Caryn Ashley Photography family was growing, but that I was gaining close friends.  Friends that I look forward to seeing every few months or once a year to capture life's ever changing seasons.

2016 will also be remembered as the year my little business grew up right in front of my eyes.  Shoots and more shoots started coming, and my calendar filled up.  You have all been so kind as you display, share and post your photographs.  It feels like I constantly have a team of cheerleaders in my corner with clients like you!  Your sweet texts when you receive your flash drives and thoughtful Facebook reviews are the best motivation I could receive.

I have to be honest with you on something here, I hadn't completely prepared myself for what this growth would look like.  I have been so beyond grateful that all of my goals and dreams are coming true. There have been multiple little dance party celebrations, popped bottles of champagne and quiet prayers of thanksgiving in this season.  But you know what?  It also took me some time to get my head above water.  With every weekend packed with sessions I worked to stay on track with my promise to return photos to you in 2 weeks. Thankfully in that season Ted stepped in and took over all of the tasks necessary to keep our household running smoothly- making the coffee, cooking dinner, cleaning the bathrooms- he was a lifesaver and I just loved him all the more for serving my business in that way.  You all also showed me grace and flexibility as we packed in as many shoots as we could in October.  Thankfully mother nature was a saint this year and we had a few extra weeks of gorgeous fall weather.

So that brings me to looking ahead, planning and goal setting for 2017.  In 2017 I want to serve my clients better.  I want to run a transparent business that shows my heart, the good and the work in progress.  I want to maintain better communication with my clients and create a seamless experience that makes you feel comfortable and cared for every step of the way.

I write these things here because I want you to hold me accountable to these goals.  I don't ever want to take one moment of this work for granted.  In the off season, as we dive into the cold of January and February, you can find me working hard to elevate my client experience.  To love and serve my clients in the most beautiful way possible. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being a part of this journey, I cannot wait to see where 2017 takes us.

Serbinski Family

The Serbinskis are one of those families that you look at and you just say to yourself right away, 'yup they are rocking this whole parenthood thing.'  Katie is due with her third little one this summer and still ran around with her guys and looked absolutely gorgeous while doing it.

We met for their family shoot at Booth Park and spent the whole time playing and exploring.  The boys searched for squirrels on the paths, fed the ducks, blew bubbles, ran through the tunnel at the playground and even took a ride on the cardboard slide.  They had to have been as tired as I was after all that!  These two little guys were so outgoing and it didn't take them more than a minute to warm up to having me around for their family fun.  Thanks so much for letting me share these special moments with you, Serbinski family!  Looking forward to meeting your newest addition soon!

Kelly's Baby Bump

Oh mommas-to-be, you are just so freakin' beautiful!  There were a few weeks at the beginning of the summer where it seemed like every shoot was a maternity shoot.  And these ladies were all glowing!  They are growing a human, juggling life, and looking like super models while doing it- you rock, ladies!

Kelly was certainly no exception.  I photographed she and her husband, Steve, at their gorgeous home, where we were able to capture some of their nursery and their family's beautiful backyard. Steve simply doted on Kelly the whole time and it was the sweetest.  It was extremely evident that they cannot wait for this next stage of life together as parents.  I am looking forward to meeting the newest addition to their family when he or she arrives later this summer!

Danielle's Bump

Danielle contacted me a couple weeks before her babe was due to arrive and let me know she would like to get a few baby bump shots done.  We were lucky enough to squeeze the shoot in one week before her little lady was due to arrive.  Danielle was such a natural in front of the camera and simply glowed as a momma-to-be.  She made carrying that baby and being glamorous at the same time look so easy!  Congratulations to you and your growing family, Danielle!
